Societal, conflict and instability is when a conflict between one or more groups occurs

This may happen when there is a confrontation or differing of views between groups in society where they struggle to win or impose their values which can affect the structure of a functioning society.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight have 11 risks listed under Societal, Conflict and Instability with 2 being rated as very high:

  • Public Disorder
  • Deliberate disruption of UK space systems and space-based services

With ongoing industrial action and tensions over seas leading to protests within the UK there is the potential for increasing societal, conflict and instability.

Within Hampshire and Isle of Wight the risk of societal, conflict and instability is impacted by the ongoing strike action undertaken by some organisations as well as increasing protest activity.
