What is a railway accident?

Although the UK railway is among the safest in Europe, we still need to be aware that an accident could occur. Trains operate at high speeds and constitute a significant mass, meaning that any accident has the potential for significant consequences.

A railway accident is defined as an accident occurring because of a collision between trains or collision against an external object, or derailment resulting in injury.
