What is a large passenger vessel accident?

Passenger vessels, such as ferries, are subject to safety regulations and guidance through the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). While most passenger vessels reach their destination safely, as with any type of travel there is a risk of accident.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have busy shipping lanes, with large passenger vessels, such as cruise ships and ferries, moving through the Solent and English Channel. While we have a lot of large vessels safely travelling to and from the ports in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, we need to be aware of the risk that they pose.
